Stephen Carballo (aka “The Los Angeles River”) brings over 20 years of tattooing experience to his refined, minimalist approach. A traveling tattoo artist with deep roots in fine line and micro-realism work, Stephen tattoos at Golden Child most weekdays when he's not on the road. Known for his calm, collaborative process and precise touch, he's a favorite among creatives and first-timers alike — especially those seeking quiet, story-driven pieces that resonate for a lifetime.
I’ve been tattooing for over two decades — started in realism, found my home in fine line. Most of what I do now is small, symbolic, and meaningful: flash-inspired pieces that reflect your lifestyle, memories, or just something that feels right. I like working with people who want something honest and clean.
Most tattoos take about 10–30 minutes. We design them together when you come in — no pre-sketches, just a conversation and a shared sense of what fits. It’s about flow, placement, and that moment when you look at something and just know. That’s how it should feel.
I tattoo under “The Los Angeles River” — it’s about movement, creativity, and letting things evolve naturally. These days, I spend most weekdays at Golden Child when I’m not traveling, and I’m in my LA studio on the occasional weekend. My schedule keeps things dynamic, but every tattoo I make is grounded in care and clarity.
A big reason I’m on the road so often is to support my son — he’s a pro snowboarder, and I travel with him to competitions and training events around the world. From the Rockies to Europe, I’ve been lucky to tattoo along the way. It keeps my work inspired, spontaneous, and always evolving.
