Olivia Thompson is a Southern California tattoo artist specializing in black and grey and color realism and surrealism, with a love for bright, bold color and fine line. She gravitates toward portraits, animals, florals, and large-scale black and grey work, from Norse mythology to religious icons and flowing lily sleeves. Olivia completed her apprenticeship at Hidn Tattoo in San Jacinto, has tattooed professionally since November 2024, and took Best of Show at the Desert Sunsets Tattoo Expo. Raised in SoCal and encouraged toward art by her family, she treats every client's trust as an honor and builds pieces that carry a purpose for life.
My favorite styles to tattoo are black and grey realism and surrealism, especially portraits, animals and florals, anything nature. I was born and raised in Southern California and I definitely would say that has had an influence on my art style and approach to tattooing. I was influenced a lot by my family growing up as they encouraged me to pursue creative endeavors. My grandpa was an acrylic painter and often painted realistic nature scenes and animals, which sparked my own interest in painting as I got older.
I completed my apprenticeship at Hidn Tattoo in San Jacinto and started tattooing professionally in November of 2024. I started because I've been creating art of all kinds for most of my life and I knew I wanted to pursue it in some way as a career, and tattooing resonates with me because it really gives my art a purpose. I love that I get to do something that I'm passionate about everyday, I never get bored, there is always room for growth and something new to learn or experience and explore. Tattooing gives my art a purpose, because I'm fulfilling something for someone else, whatever their reason for getting tattooed. And they get to keep that for the rest of their lives.
These days I'm especially drawn to large scale black and grey work, florals (lilies are becoming some of my favorites), animals, meaningful portraits, and story-driven pieces from Norse mythology to religious icons. I recently took home Best of Show at the Desert Sunsets Tattoo Expo, getting to tattoo one of my favorite subjects, and I'd love to keep designing bigger sleeves and back pieces. More than anything, I'm grateful for the trust my clients place in me with every piece.
Outside of tattooing I'm still creating art of all kinds, including jewelry making, sewing, oil painting and acrylics, crochet and fiber arts. My most prevalent hobby outside of work would be roller skating, part of the Oceanside roller skating and Oside sunset skaters community. If I'm not tattooing or skating, you'll find me relaxing by the beach or outside with my dog.
